Big Picture Life Spiritual Lessons With Natural Disasters!
Each week I take questions off my Facebook Page to talk about here in this blog. This week a Facebook friend asks what are the spiritual lessons with natural disasters.
These lessons are hard and help us face our fears head on. We are often forced to get out of our comfort zone to live through them.
We get to see the best and the worst of our selves and our community. Think about all of the amazing stores of people helping each other through Hurricane Harvey. It offered people a chance to shine or to fail massively.
I love the story of “Mattress Mac, a wonderful man in Houston who owns a super huge furniture and mattress show room. In the middle of the destruction, where many people were forced out of their homes. Mattress Mac opened his doors to who ever needed help. He let them come in and sleep on his show room models. They could ride out the storm in a safe place.
There are other stories of companies and people who could have been a blessing and for what ever reason chose not too. In all circumstances, these people and companies got some profound teachings about them selves.
The Storms Offer Lessons
To immerse our self in the chaos, embrace it and keep on trucking. There are always spiritual lessons with natural disasters in these events. Don’t let it go by you with out “getting” the lesson of it. Often the lesson is to trust our self to be able to re-create a life for our selves.
Trial By Fire
The fire spirits challenge us with volcano’s, lightening storms and wild fires.
The elk will go to the highest point during an electrical storm to seek the current of lightening. Spiritual leaders in the sweet medicine path say that if you are struck by lightening , you will have a choice. You can some back, but you will be forever changed. Or you can go on into the light. They say most choose to go into the light. They have had their trial by fire spirits and passed.
In our path we use the sweat lodge to purify and pray. There is always a Fire Chief to prepare and maintain the fire that gets the rocks hot. The rocks take several hours to get hot enough. A fire keeper attends them at all times. I have done this several times and it is somewhat of a trial by the fire spirits. It is very hard to stay that close to a big fire, so you can move the rocks around and get them out for the different rounds of prayers. You have to Zen with the fire spirits in order to keep the fire. I struggle with Fire Zen.
You have to face losing what you love most in these disasters. Your life, you family and possessions. Your pets, and how you make a living.
Trial By Air
The air spirits challenge us with tornado’s, straight line winds and storms.
I have had several brushes with tornado’s and straight line winds. My husband jokes about me and storms. He says most people hide from storms but his wife goes out to video the tornado as it is barreling through the ranch.
Our ranch has taken two direct hits from tornado’s and a few straight line wind storms.
Usually I am alone when it hits. This has challenged me to depend on myself to care for all of our animals. Make plans and carry them out in a split second. Trust my intuition too.
During one tornado, I was feeling like I should let the horses out of the barn instead of tucking them into the barn and stalls.
So I let them out to move as they were impulsed to do so. Good thing I did because in that tornado, our barns took direct hits. If the horses were stalled up, they would have been killed or badly hurt.
I respect the wind spirits greatly but am not afraid of them. My ponies were not phased by the tornado either.
Trial By Water
The water spirits challenge us with floods, hurricanes and tsunamis.
It is weird to think about but I have had two major brushes with death due to water. One in a pool where a childhood “friend” held me under water until I almost drowned. Another in a diving accident.
In both cases I had the feeling that ordinarily these circumstances would have killed me, but somehow I stayed calm enough in the second case to transcend the fear and had a Zen experience with water. I remember laying on the bottom of the creek bed, thinking I should have died. Some how I was perfectly calm, suspended in sort of a bubble of Angelic grace.
Once you Zen with the element, you usually won’t be challenged by it again. There are exceptions though for what ever reasons.
Trial By Earth
Earth spiritual lessons with natural disasters challenge us with quick sand, earth quakes and mud slides.
When I was a child, I had vivid memories of being buried alive in sand. Most people love to go to the beach and lay out on the sand. But not me !! On a cellular level, some how I have far memories of that event. As a result, I don’t like to walk on the beach. I prefer to admire the water from higher ground 🙂
Natural disasters offer a multitude of souls to challenge their fears. To face their fears head on and make choices. Some times to help them selves, or give them selves to the greater good of the community.
If you are faced with over whelming natural disaster, do your best to stay calm and follow your inner feelings as what to do next and when to do it.
Your own higher guidance system is a very powerful gauge designed just for you.
It can help you navigate through hell and high water or what ever to survive the event.
Trust that once you get the spiritual lessons with natural disasters, you will move past it quickly.
It will help you survive if that is what your soul chooses for you. Otherwise it will help you transcend to the other side in grace.
